Twenty-two first quarter points in Monday’s game against Crystal City left no doubt that the Festus seventh grade girls basketball were glad to be back on the court. After a long holiday break, the Tigers cruised to their sixth victory of the season, beating Crystal City 38-4.
“I was nervous about how long it had been since we played,” said head coach Rob Martucci. “But the girls came out and picked up right where they left off before the break.”
Lillie Williams led the way for Festus with eight points. Kinsey Benack added six, while Allison Faerber, Sam Helbrueck and Lillie Knickman chipped in with four points each.
“We tweaked the offense a little to get the ball inside a little more, and it really worked out,” commented Martucci. “I also think Marisah Datillo played her best game of the year coming off the bench, contributing a bucket, numerous steals and playing very well defensively.”
The Tigers try to make it seven straight with a home game on Thursday against Perryville. Game time is 5 p.m.
