The Festus JV baseball team scored all its runs in the first three innings en route to a 13-0 five-inning victory over Herky Saturday at West City Park.

Ryan Reando (10) and Gavin Weber (10) combined to throw a no-hitter against the Blackcats.  Reando threw the first three innings and struck out five.  Weber threw the final two innings and struck out three while walking two.

Caleb Hyde (10) scored the first run of the game on a passed ball.  “That seemed to ease some of the nerves in the players,” said head coach Adam Whitehead.  “They seemed more relaxed after that play.”

The big hit of the game came off the bat of Zach Liles (10) who sealed the victory with a three-run double in the third inning.  He also had another run scoring hit in the game.  Hyde had two doubles and reached base all four times he came to the plate.

“We were very patient at the plate,” said Whitehead.  “We were aggressive on the pitchers we were looking for, but if it wasn’t there, the hitters took the pitch.  Our pitchers threw strikes and allowed the defense to make some plays behind them.  I was very pleased with our first game of the season.”

The Tigers will next be in action on Thursday at Potosi.  First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
