Take away the fourth inning in Monday’s game at Ste. Genevieve, and the Festus JV baseball team played a really good game.  Unfortunately, all the innings count, and that fourth inning cost the Tigers the game as they dropped an 8-7 decision to the Dragons.

The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning to open the game, capped by an RBI single by Dalton Cook (10).  The second inning was even better for Festus as five runs crossed the plate.  The Tigers strung together a few walks and three hits, including a double from Eddie Martin (10).

However, holding a 7-0 lead proved difficult for the Tigers.  Ste. Genevieve scored a run in the third inning, but exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to take the lead.  In that inning, the Dragons drew six walks and mixed in two hits to take the final advantage.

“We actually played pretty well outside of the fourth inning,” said head coach Adam Whitehead.  “Our pitching labored the entire game, but we did make some good plays behind them.  Hopefully we can get back on the winning track against Seckman.”

The Tigers take on the Jaguars at West City Park today.  Game time is at 4:30 p.m.
