Tennis Team Defeats DeSoto for Big Conference Win

The Festus tennis team dominated DeSoto on Tuesday, winning all singles matches and two of three doubles matches en route to an 8-1 victory on the road.

“The Tigers played some great tennis today,” said head coach Tom Thomas.  “Several of our players got their first varsity win.”

Singles victories accumulated throughout the afternoon.  Michael Hawkins (12) won at #1 by the score of 8-6.  Then Michael Esparza (10) took an 8-3 decision at #2.  Bradley Berrey (10) and Erica Fletcher (10) then won at #3 and #4.  Berrey won a close 8-6 contest, while Fletcher had an easy time, winning 8-1.  Julia Meyers (9) won 8-1 at #5, and Broxtyn Johnson (10) took an 8-4 decision at #6.

The Tigers also won two doubles matches.  Hawkins and Fletcher won an 8-4 decision at #1, while Meyers and Alexis Cooper (9) took a very close 9-7 contest at #3.

Next up for Festus is a match against Lutheran South at Sunset Park on Thursday.  Start time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
