The Festus girls soccer season ended Wednesday night as the Tigers were defeated by the Hillsboro Hawks 3-1 in the district championship game held at Windsor High School.  Festus ends the season with a 10-10 record.

The Hawks jumped out to a lead in the first half, but the Tigers were able to tie the game briefly on a goal by Claire Werner (10).  However, with around three minutes remaining in the half, the Hawks got the eventual winning goal and took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The Tigers had a couple scoring opportunities in the second half, but the Hawks spent a good deal of time putting pressure on the Tigers’ defense.  Finally, with 13:23 remaining in the game, Hillsboro scored an insurance goal on a penalty kick.

Werner’s goal was her twelfth of the season.  Both Jordan Oetting (12) and Jenna Oetting (10) collected 15 goals on the year.  Jordan led the team in scoring with 42 points.

Hillsboro will go on to play the winner of the District 1 championship game between Sikeston and Cape Central next Tuesday.
