In Friday’s first day of competition at the state track championships, two FHS entries had strong performances in Jefferson City.

The girls 4×800 meter relay team finished in ninth place, just missing out on all-state honors.  The team of Maddy Wiskirchen (11), Maddie Welsh (10), Lily Uding (12), and Melissa Wolk (10) ran a season’s best 9:48.82.  That time eclipsed their previous season-best time by nine seconds.

Meanwhile, Abby McMillin (9) finished a stellar freshman campaign by also finishing ninth in her event, the triple jump.  She missed out on all-state accolades by one place.  She had a personal best performance, jumping 34 feet, 10 inches.  That bettered her best mark by three inches.

Congratulations to all FHS athletes for a fine season.
