The Tigers Varsity team traveled to Herculaneum on Monday for a conference clash and came away with a 14-4 win. Herculaneum scored two in the fifth to close the game to 4-3, but the Tigers pulled away in the 7th by scoring nine in the frame. Festus would improve to 7-5 on the season.
The Tigers got a steady performance from Freshmen hurler Cailey McFadden. McFadden allowed just five hits and struck out seven on the night. McFadden picked up the win and pitched out of jams in the first and fifth innings.
Offensively, Festus got a three hit game from Senior Breanna McJunkins. McJunkins had three runs scored and three rbis. Festus got two hits games from underclassmen Jenna Oetting, Cailey McFadden, and Breanna Patek. All three softballers were instrumental in key spots in the game offensively. Freshmen Jenna Oetting had two rbis in the game. Third basemen Renee Lemons also had two rbis in the contest. Freshmen Erica Fletcher had a stolen base and two runs scored in the game to lift the offense. The tigers knocked around 12 hits and executed a bunt attack to get the offense rolling early.
Defensively, Haley Franklin in center field made two nifty plays sliding to save runs in key spots in the game. Senior Catcher Paige Gipson had an error free game and was a key to the tiger success and the win on Monday behind the dish.
Festus now will play at Potosi on Wednesday and at De Soto on Friday both 4:30. The Tigers play in the Seckman Tourney on Saturdayat 9 a.m. against Pacific. The tourney was rescheduled after being rained out two weeks ago.
