Back on June 9, the Festus volleyball program took part in a tournament at Jackson High School.
The Tigers took two groups to the tournament. The Festus Gold team started pool play by splitting with Carbondale. They then beat Scott City both sets and finished pool play losing both sets to Park Hills. In bracket play, theGold team faced Woodland. It was a hard fought match, but the Tigers ended up losing in three sets. The Tigers had some great hitting and blocking from Audrey McKinney, Jessica Hebenstreit, Lexi Thebeau, Kylie Bell, Reanne Niewoehner, Rachel Cooper, and Kate Todd. Grace Hoffman provided excellent defense and our setters did a great job getting the ball to the hitters. Festus Gold ended the day with a record of 1-2-1.
The Festus Black team started pool play beating Jefferson R-7 both sets. They then beat Poplar Bluff and Jackson both sets, ending pool play undefeated. In bracket play, they faced McCracken County, a top team in the tournament, and beat them in three games. Then, the Tigers faced Jackson again, beating them in two sets which sent them to the championship. Festus faced Perryville for the championship and beat them in two sets to take the title. Setters Kailey Johnson and Emily Werner did a great job running the offense. Defensive players Sydney Nahlik and Grace Lassing provided solid passing. Meanwhile, hitters Maddy Wenzelburger, Bria Garmon, Alyssa Seyfarth, Claire Werner, Lillian Brickhaus, Chloe Martin, and Emily Werner got many kills and blocks. Festus Black ended their day 6-0!
