The seventh grade volleyball team finished in second place at Tuesday’s conference tournament played at Windsor Middle School. The Tigers defeated Hillsboro 25-20, 25-17 in the semifinal game, but dropped a 15-25, 14-25 decision to the Windsor Owls in the championship game.
Against Hillsboro, Claire Martin collected three kills, while Hannah Hodges and Kali Oshia chipped in with two kills each. Ella Shy and Jersey Moonier had four aces apiece, while Martin had three.
“Jersey did a fine job at libero, which was a last minute change in the lineup,” said head coach Cindi Eggemeyer. “We had lost to Hillsboro last week, so it was nice to recover from that loss and advance to the championship.”
The Tigers had a hard time against Windsor in the championship contest. Sara Banderman had two kills, while Moonier had two aces, but the offense just wasn’t there for Festus.
“We weren’t ourselves and didn’t play up to our potential,” said Eggemeyer. “We worried too much about our mistakes.”
Festus ended the season with a 7-5-1 record.
