The Festus JV volleyball team defeated Jefferson R-7 Tuesday at home in the final match of the season. The final score was 27-25, 25-17. The victory gives the Tigers a 13-7-2 record for the year.
“This was a great end to our season,” said head coach Stephanie Whitehead. “We had to fight for this win. Jefferson has great hitters, blockers, and servers. I’m really proud of this group.”
Whitehead pointed out the following highlights of the match:
Kate Todd (10)–three kills and an ace.
Hannah Schram (10)–a great overpass kill, five additional kills, and an ace.
Taylor Jackson (10)–two kills
Lexi Little (10)–two kills
Jackson and Schram and Schram and Little with double blocks.
Alyssa Seyfarth (10)–10 kills.
Jessie Hebenstreit (9)–one kill.
Hannah Warfel (9)–great sets and an ace.
Bailee Partney (9) and Gretchen Burkard (9)–great defense.
Shelbi Ortmann (9)–great movement on the net for blocking.
Kenzie Warfel (10)–two kills.
Abby Wilson (9)–one ace.
Whitehead went on to add that “some people may not realize this, but our JV team borrows players from both the 9th grade and varsity teams, meaning game nights are the only times some of these players are on the court together. It takes great athletes to be able to do this successfully, and with only seven losses, I think that shows the kind of athletes that were on this JV team this year.”
