The Festus junior varsity girls basketball team couldn’t overcome tough second and third quarters, and fell to Visitation Academy, 39-32 Wednesday at home. Festus is now 5-11 on the season.
The two teams played evenly in the first quarter. Kenzie Warfel (10) and Melasia Jones (10) both scored four points as the Tigers and Vivettes were knotted at 12-12 after one quarter of play. However, in the next two quarters, the Tigers lost their offense.
Festus managed only a combined six points in the second and third quarters, finding themselves trailing 29-18 going into the final eight minutes of play.
Jones took over offensively for Festus in the fourth quarter. She scored seven points as the Tigers got to within three points late in the game, but Visitation was able to hold on for the seven point victory.
Jones led the Tigers with 11 points, followed by Ashley Wood (10), Kenzie Warfel, and Hannah Warfel (9) with five points apiece. Shelbi Ortmann (9) and Jessica Hebenstreit (9) also scored three points each.
The Tigers have three games remaining, and only one at home…Monday against North County. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
