The Festus tennis team saw the best of both worlds early this week. On Monday, the Tigers downed North County, 5-4 at Sunset Park. However, Festus traveled to Sikeston Tuesday and came out on the short end of an 7-2 score.
Against North County, Festus got wins from Michael Esparza (11), Ryan Esparza (9), and Julia Meyers (10) in singles play. Meyers won her match 9-8 in a tiebreaker. The difference came at doubles, where the Tigers took two of three matches. Ryan Esparza and Meyers won their match 8-5, while Carter Bowman (11) and Broxton Johnson (11) won their match by the same 8-5 score.
“I’m so proud of the kids’ hard work and support for their teammates,” said head coach Thomas Thomas.
Tuesday’s match at Sikeston was a tough one. Festus was only able to win two matches. Bradley Berrey (11) won his match at #5 singles, 8-2, and Bowman won his match at #6 singles, 8-6.
Festus is 2-2 on the season heading into its next match on Thursday. The Tigers welcome Bishop DuBourg to Sunset Park at 4 p.m.
