The Festus varsity girls soccer team stopped a five game losing streak with a victory over Hancock Wednesday at Jefferson R-7. Festus used a goal in each half to down the Tigers from St. Louis, 2-0. The win improves Festus to 2-6 on the season.
Hayley Hodges (10) put Festus up for good with a goal in the first half. She took a pass from Emily Werner (12) to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The insurance goal came in the second half when Werner scored from about 18 yards out.
Meanwhile, Kenzie Warfel (10) kept all six shots on goal out of the net to get the shut out.
“It was good to get another win because they have been improving each game,” said head coach Drew Clinton. “It was good to see that hard work pay off tonight. I think things are starting to click defensively for us. We were able to get some girls playing time and had some good efforts all around.”
Festus will now get geared up for a conference match up against the DeSoto Dragons on Monday. The Tigers travel to DeSoto for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
