The Festus Tigers baseball team couldn’t really imagine finishing the regular season any better. Taking on one of the better teams in the state, the Tigers routed Lutheran South 25-3 at West City Park on Thursday. Festus scored nine runs in consecutive innings (the second and third innings) to run their record to 15-7 on the season. Lutheran South fell to 21-8.
“We played really well,” said head coach Jeff Montgomery. “I’d like to think this was a statement game for us mentally and physically. I think we are ready to prove ourselves. We are a confident team right now.”
The Tigers did get a little help from the visitors. Four errors and 11 walks certainly aided the Festus cause. However, so did 15 hits. Here’s an offensive rundown for the Tigers:
Chase Cole (12)–three hits, four runs scored, four RBI, one double
Jake Leitner (12)–two hits, two runs scored, one RBI
Collin Mann (12)–two hits, six RBI, one grand slam home run
Matt Rosen (12)–two hits, three runs scored, four RBI, one double
Zach Baisch (11)–one hit, two runs scored, two RBI
Blake Holland (12)–one hit, one RBI
Caleb Hyde (11)–one hit, two runs scored, one RBI, one double
Zach Liles (11)–one hit, two runs scored, one RBI
Charlie Pratt (11)–one hit, one run scored
Brennan Pryor (12)–one hit, two runs scored, two RBI one double
And the pitching? Ryan Reando (11) went three innings allowing only four hits. He got relief help from Cody Peters (12) and Liles.
“Reando did his job and pitched well,” said Montgomery. “Peters has been pitching well the past week also.”
Festus has some momentum heading into its district opener on Saturday against Windsor.
