The Festus boys and girls cross country team performed very well at the prestigious Greg Wilson Classic held in Johnson County, Kansas over the Labor Day weekend. The Junior Varsity girls placed third. Coach Bryant Wright says the girls raced hard and did well with some very tough competition. The JV boys had the best finish of the day, placing 2nd. “They raced hard and got 2nd to historically the best team in the state, Rockhurst,” Wright said.
In Varsity competition, the girls finished fifth in a stacked field with just two minute spread from the team’s first finisher to its seventh finisher. Wright said, “We have a lot of work to do but showed that we have a good team that could be great.” The Varsity boys struggled, but managed to finish fifth. “The first meet is always a learning process. I feel that we had some individual highlights and are not far from where we need to be. With a few corrections we will be ready for next week,” Wright said.
The team’s next meet is the Forest Park Festival Saturday morning.
