The Junior Varsity Tigers find themselves with a 3-0 record after another hard fought victory. In the 1st quarter quarterback Cole Rickerman connected with Dalten Yates in the back of the endzone to start off the Tiger scoring. Both North County and Festus defenses held opposing offenses until late in the 2nd quarter. Thomas Meczkowski intercepted a Raider pass attempt to end a drive and Mason O’Bryan had a huge 4th down sack to give Festus the ball before half. With 15 seconds remaining in the half Rickerman threw a dart to Daylen Wagoner who raced to the endzone for a 59 yard touchdown. Yates ran in the two point conversion to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead going into halftime. After a costly interception to start the 3rd quarter the Raiders marched down the field and capitalized by scoring 8 points and narrowing the Festus lead to 6. The Tigers responded on the first play of the pursuing drive. With great blocks by the Tiger offensive line Yates found a seam and ran for a 75 yard touchdown. The following kickoff was returned for a touchdown by a speedy North County Raider but Dominic Stinson intercepted a pass to halt their 2pt conversion attempt. Later in the 3rd quarter a Raider broke off a long run but was unable to reach the end-zone because of a great pursuit by a hoard of Tigers including Meczkowski, O’Bryan and Damarion Anderson. The Raiders continued the drive and ended up with a 1st and goal from the Tigers one yard line. The Festus defense had a HUGE four play goal line stand capped off by a Xander Hurst tackle in the backfield. That stop kept the Raiders from scoring a touchdown and tying the ballgame. Backed up on their own one yard line the Tigers gave up a safety and had to kickoff to the opposing North County team. The Raiders began driving down the field for the go ahead touchdown when a muffed snap turned into a Tyler Harris fumble recovery. The Tiger offense stepped up to the plate, drove the ball down the field and ran the remaining time off the clock. The Junior Varsity Tigers are back in action next Monday against the visiting Hillsboro Hawks.
