Mother Nature has wreaked havoc on the JV baseball schedule to date. With multiple rain outs and rescheduled games, the Lutheran South Lancers and Festus JV Tigers had to adjust their game day plans late this afternoon. Although the game was originally scheduled to be played at West City Park, the Tigers loaded up and traveled to LSHS Friday after school.
The change of plans had little impact on the Tiger offense. Although the bats got off to a slow start in the first inning, the Tigers scored in five of their seven innings at the plate. Featuring 14 runs on 12 hits, the offensive outburst guided the FHS squad to victory.
Leading the way with three hits apiece were Aidan Irelan (10) and Cameron Ford (9); contributing two hits on the night were Mike Freukes (10) and Owen Hyde (9). The Tiger offense was also aided by hits from Brendyn Zohner (9) and Simon Wallace (9).
While the Tigers were able to capitalize on five walks and five Lancer errors, seven Tigers drove in 10 of the 15 runs on the evening. Irelan led the effort with three RBI, with one RBI apiece for Laine Axtetter (10), Conner McDonald (9), Zohner, Ford, Hyde, and Wallace.
On the mound, the Tiger’s only allowed three earned runs on the evening. The pitching staff had to labor through a handful of defensive miscues, but battled and made key pitches when necessary. Axtetter, Ford, Irelan, Kaleb Kennedy (9), and Zohner would combine for 16 strikeouts while only allowing five hits.
The JV Tigers will be in action on Monday night as they travel to Ste. Gen. to play the Dragons under the lights at Yanks Field following the varsity match up.
