The Tigers traveled to Affton High School on Wednesday night to play the Cougars in a non-conference game leading into districts on Saturday at Ste. Genevieve.

Lefty Junior Nolan Stafford would get the call on the mound for the Tigers. Stafford would strike out 3 in just three innings of work and surrender two runs. Collin Reando would relieve Stafford and get the decision in the end going 5 innings and allowing one run. Reando would strike out 3 hitters.

Festus would score two in the first inning.Collin Reando and Eddie Martin would reach on walks and later score. Zach Baisch would ground out and pick up an RBI. In the fourth inning Connor Wilkinson would reach on an error and later score. Senior Kobe Branscomb would single home Wilkinson to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. Festus was taking advantage of walks and Affton miscues early in the game.

Affton would score one in the first, one in the third and tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Festus would go to work in the top of the 7th inning. Senior second basemen Caleb Hyde would double and then two pitches later Sophomore Cole Wagner would triple to give the Tigers the lead. Wagner would score on a pass ball and the Tigers would take the lead by two runs in the top of the 7th inning. Festus would have just four hits in the game from Eddie Martin, Kobe Branscomb, Caleb Hyde, and Cole Wagner.

Eddie Martin had a nice game defensively with 5 put outs. Martin would be involved in two solid plays defensively and would be apart of two double plays. A defensive gem came in the 7th inning on a Affton hit and run. Martin fielded the ground out and threw to Zach Liles at first base. Liles got the out at the bag and then threw a strike to third base to Connor Wilkinson to nail the runner trying to go first to third. The double play would kill any chance of a threat for the Affton Cougars had on the evening. Tigers win 5-3. Kobe Branscomb, Eddie Martin, Ryan Reando, and Connor Wilkinson all had stolen bases.

The Tigers are the 5 seed in Saturday’s district tourney at Ste Genevieve and will play the 4 seed at 1pm at Yanks Field.
