Senior Night at West City Park on Monday saw the Festus Tigers battle with the perennial power team from Cape Girardeau, the Notre Dame Bulldogs. The Bulldogs came in with a 17-5 record and looked to be a tough opponent for the Tigers.
The only run in the game came in the third inning. With the bases loaded and two outs a hard ground ball that struck the foot of Festus Pitcher Connor Wilkinson and rolled into the infield grass. The only run would score on the infield hit. Wilkinson had relieved Senior Zach Liles who pitched 2 2/3 of an inning. Both pitchers pitched well and made good pitches and got out of jams. Wilkinson would settle in and hold the Notre Dame offense in check the rest of the way. Liles allowed two hits and Wilkinson allowed 3 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Offensively, Festus got a two hit game from Senior First Basemen Zach Baisch. Collin Reando, Wyatt Daugherty, and Caleb Hyde also collected hits. The Tigers would threaten and load the bases in the 7th inning but a ground ball off the bat of Eddie Martin would end the game. It was another tough loss to take for the Tigers against the talented Cape Notre Dame squad. Hopefully the close affair will build some confidence before districts. The Tigers finish out the regular season on Wednesday at Affton at 4:15pm.
The Tiger Baseball Family honored the seven seniors after the varsity game and recognized their parents for their support and dedication the last four years.
Seniors on this year’s team include: Zach Baisch, Kobe Branscomb, Caleb Hyde, Zach Liles, Eddie Martin, Charlie Pratt, and Ryan Reando.
